Causey Aviation is what a family builds when it never stops flying: an ARGUS Gold rated Part 135 charter operation, aircraft management for owners, and now a brand-new hangar and fuel facility at Piedmont Triad International.
It started with a grass strip in Liberty, North Carolina.
In 1963, Benson Causey opened Causey Airport (NC74) south of Greensboro, a family airfield that still operates today. What began as one family's love of flying grew into a full aviation company: charter, aircraft management, and hangar and fuel services trusted by owners and operators across the region. Today the third generation runs the operation from a newly built campus at KGSO, and you still deal directly with a Causey.
Bitten by the flying bug
Winfield and Charlie Causey are farming with their father Benson when flying takes hold, and the family turns from furrows to runways, laying a grass strip on the farm at Liberty, NC.
Causey Aviation incorporates
The hobby becomes a business: Causey Aviation Service, Inc. is founded at the family airfield, Causey Airport (NC74), still operating today, and the start of six decades of North Carolina aviation.
A commercial air carrier
Causey earns its FAA Part 135 on-demand air carrier certificate and begins flying charter and managing aircraft for owners, to the standards we'd demand for our own family.
A new home at KGSO
The new hangar and Jet-A fuel facility opens at Piedmont Triad International, designed by Lindsey Architecture and built by Hamlett Associates of Colfax. Hangar, fuel, crews, and charter on one private campus, and the company's first facility of its own in Greensboro after nearly six decades of flying here.

The family's original airfield — Causey Airport (NC74) — is a privately controlled, 3,800-foot field in the center of the corridor, directly across the road from the Greensboro-Randolph megasite. Permission-only, uncongested airspace makes it a natural site for UAS, eVTOL, and defense-contractor flight testing. There is room on the ground too — a 100 ft × 100 ft hangar and open land beside the runway, across the road from a $14 billion plant.

The family's own field, Causey Airport (NC74) in Liberty, gives us something few operators can offer: a controlled, private airfield for flight testing. A 3,800-foot runway and open, low-traffic airspace make it well suited to UAS and drone programs, eVTOL and advanced air mobility, and defense contractor flight tests. Private and discreet, yet minutes from Greensboro (GSO) and within easy reach of RDU and the Carolinas. Our sister company, Causey Aviation Unmanned, is one of the few Part 135 companies operating drone delivery at scale in the U.S.

Causey Airport (NC74) in Liberty, North Carolina is a 190-acre flight-test field with room on it. Alongside the 3,800-foot runway — which Causey keeps in operation — there is a 100 ft × 100 ft hangar available, three-phase power on site, and a portion of the surrounding land to build on, directly across the road from the Greensboro-Randolph megasite and Toyota's battery plant. For a manufacturer, a supplier, or a programme that has to build something and then fly it, both happen on the same property.

Causey Aviation Unmanned, our sister company, holds a standard FAA Part 135 air carrier certificate and FAA approval to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) — one of a handful of federally certificated drone-delivery air carriers in the United States.
